Well, for milling/printing/etc, you need to generate Gcode to run the machine. And neither program does that. They do both export STL files. Whichever slicer you're using converts the STL to Gcode for 3d printing. Haven't done much milling on a hobbyist level. My work does cnc cutting and milling, but it's effectively 2d and the software packages it all together for production. (the machines run a modified gcode from what i can tell).
This workflow is a adobe illustrator file that outlines the cut paths, and the software on the machines control what tools are used and the settings for it. So TL;DR you need to figure out what the machine needs and use programs that will make that type of file. (mostly for the milling aspect).

For 3dprinting almost any program that can make a 3d model can export a STL file. I am assuming you're a student which would get you Inventor for free. If that's the case you can get all Autodesk software free which includes their CAM package. I use both myself, I like Inventor more mostly for some little things really they are both great.

I get fewer bugs with Inventor but I have to wait a year for major updates where Fusion is updated pretty frequently. I agree a slicer is likely coming to Fusion or at least better printing integration with Meshmixer or something of the like. If you learn one the other is very similar in nature as with almost all parametric modeling packages.
